The Society felt it was important that we acknowledge Sir Peter's dedication to the coracling world. The coronavirus pandemic has prevented us from doing so publicly at any events however, in consultation with Lady Badge, we have made a donation to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution - a wonderful organisation whose lifesaving work in the UK and Ireland has been undertaken for nearly 200 years. The RNLI was a cause near and dear to Sir Peter and the committee were delighted to send them a donation of £250 in memory of Sir Peter.
We all thought the coracle (curach) had died out as a traditional working boat in Scotland in the 18th Century with the cessation of timber floating on the River Spey.
Members will remember that at the end of 2020 we sadly lost our dear friend, former President and founding Chairperson, Sir Peter Badge.
