My brother Dave Nicoll who was a member probably from 1996 when he built his first coracle on a Terry Kenny’s course on the weekend of the Ironbridge regatta of that year, died on Saturday 20th April after a short illness aged 85
Coracles at Scottish Traditional Boat Festival 2015
15 August 2015
Dave Purvis was once again representing the Society at this year's Scottish Traditional Boat Festival in Portsoy. He was joined by Museum Assistant Heather Townsend from Elgin Museum, for whom we raised £350 at the Tay Descent last year towards the conservation and reinterpretation of their Spey currach, thought to be the oldest coracle in existence. The weather was far from agreeable, however the large numbers sheltering from the rain in the Society stand did provide the perfect opportunity to inform a wider audience!
