Maiden voyage for coracle (and owner!) on a recently refurbished section of North Walsham and Dilham canal. Norfolk's only sailing canal but ideal for a coracle.

Fibreglass Towy coracle

Further to our news item in our recent spring newsletter, Arrowcraft Engineering have produced their first fibreglass Towy coracle, moulded from Towy coracle used by the Carmarthen Coracle and Netsmen's Association. They will shortly be delivering the coracle the Society has donated funds for to the Carmarthen coraclers.

Society makes donations to two Welsh coracle groups

The Society was joined by the Teifi Coracle Netsmen's Association at last year's BBC Countryfile Live. Whilst they were happy to take part in our activities, getting the public (and a Countryfile presenter!) out on the water, they were concerned about damage caused to their personal, traditionally made, working coracles through the number of guests on the water.

New fibreglass Towy coracle

With the support and generous contribution from The Coracle Society and expert craftsmanship from Mr David Pinson of Arrowcraft - the Towy (and Teifi) coracle is in fibre-glass production. These durable fibre-glass coracles will be available to purchase from Arrowcraft and will allow visitors to the River Towy and Teifi a coracle taster session, without causing damage to the old handmade coracles used for fishing.

Welshpool Coracle Regatta

Saturday 23 June 2018 - 11:00 to 17:00

Held in conjunction with the Welshpool Festival of Transport the regatta will attract larger than usual numbers.
Entries for traditional coracle races will be most welcome alongside novice and group racing in GRP coracles kindly provided by McMillan
Coracles racing across the unusually wide section of canal in the centre of Welshpool will provide an unusual spectacle and will attract considerable public interest

Coracle novice race at the Carmarthen River Festival

Saturday 23 June 2018 - 13:00 to 18:00

A community event that has fun for all the family.

You'll have the chance to win a trophy in the Coracle Novice Race or take part in the raft race, canoe/coracle/kayak taster sessions.

This year we have the Inflatable Championships, where anyone and everyone with a lilo, pink flamingo, unicorn or paddling pool can enter!!

Dryside there will be many stalls, food stands and a FREE funfair kindly organised by Carmarthen Round Table.

Highland Folk Museum - Heritage in Action (1)

Once again we have been invited to take our coracles to a series of events throughout the summer at the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore. We will participate at the Vintage Day on 27 May, Heritage in Action Days every Thursday in July and the first two in August, and the Outlander Day on 9 June. On each day from 10.00 until 17.00. We hope to have five coracles on the Mill Pond - not a huge area but big enough for folk to experience paddling. The pond has about 3 feet of water at its deepest point deep. It is sheltered from the wind so weather does not bother us too much.
