09 August 2016

The Society, along with our friends from the Teifi Coracle Netsmen Association and The Ironbridge Coracle Trust had a fantastic time at BBC Countryfile Live last weekend. The weather was brilliant and we had lots of interest from members of the public. The Waterside zone, which we were located in, processed over 5000 visitors for the activities on the water and we got over 300 of those in a coracle on the water. The Teifi Coracle Netsmen Association performed a number of netting demonstrations on the water, made possible thanks to a special licence granted by the Environment Agency. Coracle making demonstrations were carried out across the whole weekend - a "modern" craft was built on Thursday and Friday by Dave Purvis, and two traditional Teifi craft were built Saturday and Sunday by Rod Bowen, Mark Dellar and other Teifi coraclemen. The traditional craft was sold by auction on Sunday afternoon, with the proceeds being donated to The Ironbridge Coracle Trust.

Many thanks go to the organisers of BBC Countryfile Live and in particular Nick Poole and our new friends at LNC Activities and Training, who led the organisational, logistical support and hospitality for The Waterside. We are hoping to be invited back in 2017 - we will of course let you know when details emerge!
