09 June 2015

We are delighted to report that today the Ironbridge Coracle Trust (registered charity 1161685) took posession of the Eustace Rogers hut on the bank of the river Severn in Ironbridge, a huge step forward for their campaign which of course The Coracle Society supported initially with our Save Our Heritage Huts appeal.

For more information about the Rogers project and indeed the Rogers family, take a look at their website www.coracleshed.org – an excellent site which captures the spirit of the shed and the Roger’s family.

If any of you have memories of Eustace or know others who have, please get in touch with Jude Walker - email [email protected] or call 01952 275606/07780 952583- so she can add them to the archive.

The next step forward for the Trust is to start the conservation and restoration effort. With this in mind, they are seeking help with work parties on the shed - next one 24th July starting 11.00am at Small Woods (Green Wood Centre) They are also seeking new trustees to help direct the future conservation and use of the shed. Again, if you can help please contact Jude directly.

Jude Walker said in an email announcement "many thanks to everyone who has helped us to achieve our first ambition: to secure the shed as the centrepiece of coracle heritage in Ironbridge."

The Ironbridge Coracle Trust are also organising this year's Ironbridge Regatta - more information on this is available here. Please do attend if possible to support their efforts and those generally of keeping coracle traditions alive! This is one of the key events we are supporting this year - as we always do - as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations.
