01 January 2017

2017 will see the reconstruction of the coracle from Fife, Scotland. See a prehistoric coracle in Fife by Watkins.

A group of us will be building this near Penzance in the New Year. We have agreed the design from the reports of the excavation and are sourcing materials. We have a build site which will be the conventional grassed flat area. Approximately two metres by one, we will try to cover with skin but maybe will settle for the normal cloth and bitumen paint - although I have a hankering for a varnish so as to paddle in a ship of glass.

A friend and I built what turned out to be a kayak based on grave one from the same site - see https://www.academia.edu/1492974/A_BRONZE_AGE_KAYAK for more information and photos.

More when we begin.
