The Society is sad to announce the passing of member and former committee member, Bruce Watson.
Bruce had served on the committee for many years until stepping down recently due to ill health. He was a well respected and active member of both the Society and the Ironbridge community, being one of the Trustees of the Ironbridge Coracle Trust. He was often found in his workshop by the river, crafting away - whether it was coracles or beautiful stringed instruments, or something else!
In 2022, Bruce led the way in his bright red Lower Dee coracle on the river Severn in Ironbridge, transporting the Queen's Baton as part of the Commonwealth-wide relay as part of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The baton, containing a personal message from the late Queen, travelled across the world to 72 nations and territories over 294 days - with a small part of that journey by coracle in Bruce's safe hands.
The Society is incredibly grateful for his support and service and we send our condolences to his partner Sharon, daughter Alice and the rest of his family.
Bruce's family have set up a tribute page for those who wish to share a memory or make a donation in his memory to the chosen charity, Severn Hospice
