The Society, along with our friends from the Teifi Coracle Netsmen Association and The Ironbridge Coracle Trust had a fantastic time at BBC Countryfile Live in August. The weather didn't start too promising - the show was halted for an hour whilst a thunderstorm passed on the Saturday. But the sun soon broke through and we had lots of interest from members of the public.


13 September 2017

Coming this autumn, a new BBC series 'Britain Afloat' will include an episode about coracles. The production team spent time with coraclers in Ironbridge, as well as Carmarthen and Cilgerran. The episode will be the second in the series, which is currently scheduled to start on Saturday 30th September on BBC Two/BBC Two HD. It should also be available after first transmission via the BBC iPlayer.

The latest series of Bargain Hunt started with an episode in Carmarthen, where presenter Charlie Ross met up with the Carmarthen Coracle Netsmen's Association to learn about coracle fishing and have a go. The episode was broadcast on BBC One on Monday 11th September.


31 August 2017

Our 2017 season at the Museum ended on Saturday 26 August - Outlander Day. Three members of the Club spent all day at the Millpond while others visited through the day. We had four coracles on the water and one for visitors to handle onshore. On the day, 84 visitors had a go, making a total throughout the season of 658 people experiencing the pleasure of being in a coracle.

Six members of our club, together with two coracles, joined forces with Dave Purvis at Portsoy on Sunday 25 June. We had built a trolley to transport the coracles from the car park to the harbour and back specially as it a long walk up quite a steep grade. OK, we chickened out on carrying them on our backs. Unfortunately we could not go on the Saturday and missed a great deal.

We will be returning to BBC Countryfile Live this year, as part of the Waterside zone. Planned activities include have a go coracling sessions, coraclemaking demonstrations, regattas and traditional coracle demonstrations by the Teifi Coracle Netsmen’s Association. We are also planning to have a pond on shore for younger guests to have a go at coracling.
