29 March 2014

Our very own Peter Faulkner, renowned coracle and currach maker, will be running in this year's London Marathon to fundraise for his chosen charity, Sparks.

Sparks is a leading children's medical research charity, whose research covers a wide range of medical conditions including childhood cancers, cerebral palsy, premature birth issues and spina bifida. Through their research they aim to improve the quality of life for children and their families affected by serious illness or disability whilst seeking ways to better diagnose, treat and preent these conditions in the future.

Peter, now aged just 71 years young, has a long history in athletics stretching over 50 years. In that time he has been county cross country champion, founded the Croft Ambrey running club, completed 13 full marathons as well as the gruelling 53 mile long London to Brighton race. Whilst it has been over 20 years since he last ran a full marathon, he has been training hard over the past year and with the support of his daughter and marathon partner Louise, hopes to run the marathon in around 4 hours, 20 minutes, and raise £2000 for this very worthy cause.

As part of his fundraising campaign, Peter is raffling one of his famous traditional, hide covered 'Teme' coracles, worth £800. The winner of the prize draw will win the coracle with paddle, built over a period of 50 hours using natural, sustainable resources, along with a full handling and paddling lesson.

The raffle is now closed
